Reeder, who lived in the centuries-old Murray-Dick-Fawcett House at 517 Prince St., formed a partnership with the city for the historic preservation and public benefit of the house.

To the editor: An article in your June 18 issue notes that three members of the Virginia General Assembly work for the City of Alexandria. There are inferences throughout the article that this is a problem. They all deserve to be praised, not criticized, for their roles in both our city where they work and their dedication to also representing other jurisdictions in Richmond.

Once signed by the governor, these laws generally go into effect on July 1 of the year in which they are enacted. Every summer, I endeavor to write an article outlining a few new laws slated to go into effect. This list is not designed to be comprehensive, as literally dozens of changes were made by the Assembly, many of them small procedural fixes.

Alexandria’s first postmaster was Robert McCrea, who served from 1776 to 1793. The son of some of the first settlers of Alexandria, McCrea served as postmaster until his death.
