The clouds finally cleared over Cumbria on the morning of Tuesday 7 December 2015. The sun began to pierce through the grey, gloomy sky, revealing what was left of the county after the biggest flood on record struck the region. Huge green fields, once home to Cumbria’s livestock, were gone. In their place was a brown sea, the remaining hedges snaking through the water. Most of the county’s communities – including its biggest town, Carlisle – were devastated.
