Only one institution still open for business in Owensville is older than the Gasconade County Republican — the U.S. Post Office. According to Postal Service data, Edward Luster became the first postmaster here on June 27, 1856. It wasn't until 49 years later, in 1905 that the Gasconade County Republican was born of a merger.
