AMD and Meta Expand Partnership with 6 GW of AMD GPUs
AMD’s strategic struggle to carve out a growing piece of the GPU pie from market dominator NVIDIA took a positive turn for the challenger today with the announcement that AMD and Meta have agreed on a 6-gigawatt deal for AMD Instinct GPUs. The companies said the agreement expands on their existing partnership and aligns roadmaps across silicon, systems and software to deliver AI platforms designed for Meta’s workloads.
Quantum: IonQ Selected to Support Missile Defense Agency SHIELD IDIQ Contract
COLLEGE PARK, Md. — February 23, 2026 — Quantum company IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) announced it was awarded a contract under the Missile Defense Agency Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract with a ceiling of $151 billion. This contract encompasses a range of work areas that allows for the rapid delivery of innovative capabilities to the warfighter with increased speed and agility.
2 Argonne Scientists Win DOE Early Career Research Awards
Two researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory have been named recipients of 2025 Early Career Research Program awards from the DOE Office of Science. David Kaphan and Yong Zhao will each receive $550,000 per year for five years to further their research.

Oak Ridge Engineers and Plant Biologists Automate Plant Transformation for Scientific Discovery
The project, called SMART Plant 1.0 (Sensors, Machine vision, Automation and Robotics for Transforming Plants), successfully demonstrated an early stage plant transformation system that uses robotics to replace a laborious, manual task in plant science. SMART Plant 1.0 identified and robotically collected tissue from live plants, treated it to transform and trigger growth, and placed it on a special nutrient blend so that it develops a cell mass that can form a new plant.
