The Recorder

The Recorder was founded in 1898 and the paper’s motto is “You can’t beat a local”. The paid paper is published bi-weekly and the main circulation areas are Port Pirie, Crystal Brook, Gladstone, Melrose and Port Broughton. Some 15,000 people live in the region, which is geographically positioned beside Spencer Gulf in the mid north of South Australia. The main tourist attractions are the Flinders Rangers and fishing in the gulf. The world’s biggest smelter is located at Port Pirie and farming is the other major industry. Actor Keith Michell and footballer and former Crows captain, Mark Bickley are the area’s most famous locals. The Smelter’s Picnic, held in Spring, is the most popular community event. Source
