In hockey, as in life, there are people you hear about, but don’t know. Doesn’t mean you’re not curious, just means you don’t cross paths. For me, one such individual is Ted Dent. Four NHL seasons ago, Randy Carlyle was looking for new assistant coaches in Toronto. Dent discussed a job with the Maple Leafs, although there wasn’t a formal interview. The two men had a history, as Dent was video co-ordinator in Washington when Carlyle worked there as an assistant to Bruce Cassidy.
