OUTSMARTED by Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille, the DA has moved to give itself the right to fire party members who refuse to leave elected political offices when ordered to do so. De Lille, who quit as Western Cape leader of the party at the beginning of 2017, survived a no-confidence vote brought against her by her own party by one vote, mainly as a result of the support of opposition parties. She has remained defiant, with her presence as mayor reminding the DA of its impotence.
FOLLOWING the Eshowe riots late last week, the MEC for economic development, tourism and environmental affairs, Sihle Zikalala, has called for the establishment of a forum to deal with issues that could potentially lead to violent conflict. Zikalala made the call after a meeting in Eshowe with the local community, traditional leaders, municipal officials and local farmers.
THE trial of Karabo Mokoena’s alleged murderer Sandile Mantsoe, 27, will get under way in the South Gauteng High Court today. The 15-day trial was rescheduled to today due to new developments in the case which resulted in its postponement during his last appearance. Mantsoe is facing charges of premeditated murder, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and defeating the ends of justice. The matter has since been moved from the magistrate’s court to the high court.
THE Gauteng department of health says the no work, no pay rule will apply to forensic pathologists who embarked on an illegal strike at a Germiston Mortuary last week. “The principle of no work, no pay will be implemented to all employees who embarked on unprotected industrial action across the board,” the department said.

Gauteng police on Sunday confirmed a man was assaulted by community members in Slovo, Eldorado Park, for allegedly stealing cables and a car battery. A man in his 20s was arrested by the community after his was found in possession of the stolen goods. “The people have assaulted a man they are accusing of stealing a cable and car battery. The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court has ruled on the extradition of convicted Czech crime kingpin Radovan Krejcir. The judge found that not only were the charges against Krejcir viable for prosecution but also that there was a reasonable chance for successful prosecution.

Exact case matching or punctuation
If you're searching for a brand name or keyword that relies on specific punctuation marks or capitalization, you can

Use parentheses to separate multiple
boolean phrases. For example, to find journalists talking about having fun in Disney World or
Disneyland, search for ("disney world" OR disneyland) AND fun.
An asterisk can be used to search for any variation of a root word truncated by the asterisk. For example, searching for admin* will return results for administrator, administration, administer, administered, etc.
A near operator is an AND operator where you can control the distance between the words. You can vary the distance the near operation uses by adding a forward slash and number (between 0-99) such as strawberries NEAR/10 "whipped cream", which means the strawberries must exist within 10 words of "whipped cream".
