The New Civil Rights Movement

In November of 2008, after eight years of Republican polices that led to a worldwide financial crisis and downbeaten minorities, voters went to the polls and elected Barack Obama – but in California they also elected to ban same-sex marriage. The passage of Prop 8 was a life-changing moment for me. Like so many Americans, I needed answers and I needed to take action. Over the next few weeks I created The New Civil Rights Movement, to provide those answers and galvanize a community of progressives to help advance civil rights for LGBT people. Since then, we’ve grown NCRM into one of the most powerful voices for progressives, the LGBT community, and other under-represented minorities in the country. And there’s still so much work we’re going to do together. Thank you for reading, thank you for standing up for civil rights and equal rights. Source
