Tina Fontaine did not get justice. The 15-year-old Indigenous girl who was murdered, wrapped in a duvet filled with rocks and tossed into the Red River in 2014, was let down by a lot of people. But it wasn’t police who investigated her case or the justice system that failed her. Raymond Joseph Cormier, who was charged with second degree murder in Tina’s death, was found not guilty Thursday. The verdict should come as little surprise to anyone who followed the trial closely.
