What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked for my university's newspaper, UNC Charlotte's University Times.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! And I wish I still had one.
How is social media changing news?
We have access to breaking news in near real-time, and we're able to find and investigate sources with a few clicks.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To provide the community with as much information as possible so individually and collectively the best possible decisions can be made.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I don't, usually.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I work on the road, so a good backpack is critical, as is a charged smartphone. I'm getting better with my video and digital camera.

Why did you become a journalist?
Because I have so many questions! I need to know how things work, why people do what they do. Then I like to share the answers.

No, but every once and a while I'd submit a snarky piece that the editors would run.

Over-report, you'll be glad you did when it comes to write.
