I am an arts, entertainment, education and technology journalist and writer based in Southern California. I'm also a visual art critic, tutor and college educator. Currently, I'm arts and culture editor of LA Weekly, one of the nation's oldest alternative newspapers. You can find us at laweekly.com.
Previously, I was associate editor of THE Journal, a national magazine and website that covers technology in education, primarily K-12. I was also editor of Premiere OC, a performing and visual arts magazine, published biannually by Orange Coast magazine, covering music, theater, art, dance and mixed media.
I served as the Orange County Register's arts reporter and visual art critic for 14 1/2 years, and received many awards, including Best Arts/Culture story from the OC Press Club and Best Blog in Orange County in 2010. I was an arts and culture reporter at the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper, and an entertainment and pop culture reporter at the Bakersfield Californian. I've also written for ARTnews, ArtVoices Magazine, Art Ltd., the OC Art Blog, Asian Week, the Albuquerque Journal, Tribal College Journal and the San Francisco Bay Guardian. I have taught journalism at UCLA, Glendale Community College, Cal State Fullerton and L.A. Valley College.
I also have some experience in PR and marketing, serving as the Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach.
Currently, I contribute to a number of publications, including the Times OC (a Sunday publication of the Los Angeles Times), Laguna Beach Magazine, Newport Beach Magazine, ArtVoices, Montage Magazine, Bespoke Concierge, Omni Hotels Escapes and the Laguna Beach Independent.
I obtained an honors B.A. degree in English and American Literature from Brown University and a master's degree in journalism from UC Berkeley. I enjoy writing, learning and teaching.
