Amid tensions between Taiwan and China, Arizona governor Doug Ducey arrived in Taipei on a trade mission. China had launched a series of military drills after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island nation earlier this month. However, other US politicians have continued to visit Taipei amid escalating tensions between the two countries.

Taiwan said it will use its Navy and Air Force if Chinese forces enter within 12 nautical miles into its territorial sea and airspace. Taiwan's Major General Lin Wen-huang said the country will exercise the "right to self-defence to counter-attack" amid China's threat. Shamima Begum who had fled to Syria in 2015 to join the Islamic State(IS) was allegedly smuggled into the country by an intelligence agent, a new book by journalist Richard Kerbaj has claimed. The book alleged the double agent took Shamima, Kadiza Sultana and Amira Abase from Turkey to Syria. He was reportedly arrested in Turkey after the teenagers arrived in IS-controlled Syria.
