Biography

As well as following sport I am passionate about new media and the game industry. I created the gaming blog called One Man and His Controller, which is now on YouTube, Facebook Twitter and Twitch.

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first paid job as a journalist was with the Evening Gazette in Teesside. I managed to get a front page exclusive in my first two weeks.

How is social media changing news?

It means we can see more of what's going on in the community - break-ins, assaults, community events - they all make interesting stories.

The SportsByte Reporter of the Year award highlights reporters who have displayed a professional, accurate and committed service to reporting on sports content. I received the award for my work as a football reporter covering news on Sunderland West End FC during my final year at Sunderland University.

The Midlands Media Awards is the Birmingham Press Club’s largest and most prestigious annual event. The awards recognise and reward the best local and regional journalists, broadcasters and photographers and will deliver an outstanding event celebrating the diversity of the media throughout the Midlands. I was nominated as a finalist, one of seven across the whole of the Midlands.
