Good morning, you're listening to morning edition on KPBS Sim Tep Cruz. San Diego's got the first. Look at a sculpture in PPO Park. that symbol is how San Diego Antiguana became this year's World design Capital. KPBS reporter Thomas Fudge says the event showcases are architecture and urban planning. The pavilion in Balboa Park is a symbol and a gathering space. San Diego city Councilman Raul Campo was an early supporter of world design Capital 2024. He says the inclusion of two cities this year is emblematic of life in the region. I think that the idea that we're a binational region that operates as one organism rather than two separate cities and two separate countries is going to be achieved here, because the programming that comes here is going to highlight American artists and Mexican artists is going to highlight American scientists and Mexican scientists. The World design Capital is a recognition and a celebration of the power of design in a community. Past capitals have included Mexico, city and soul. South Korea. San Diego Tijuana was the first joint application in the program's history. A list of events linked to the World design Capital 2024 can be found on its website WC 2024 org. Thomas F. Judge k.
