>> brain and spinal injuries caused by e-bike and scooter crashes are on the rise. that's the result of a study by nyu langone health. researchers say. e-bike and scooter crash injuries account for nearly 7% of all trauma patients admitted to bellevue over a five year period, according to that same report. collisions with other vehicles caused the injuries, and most of the people injured were not wearing protective helmets. >> over in suffolk county, officials there are stepping up its bike enforcement, and they want to let everyone know about some recently passed laws. for an example, they showed a video of an officer pulling over a guy that they say was violating one of its new bike restrictions, and those include requiring helmets for anyone who operates an e-bike or an e-scooter. and another law bans those under 16 from operating an e-bike on a public road. and that's not all. >> you can't operate an e-bike or an e-scooter on a roadway where the speed limit is over 35mph. all right. it's not safe. i don't know why anybody would want to do it, but it is now against the law and you will be summonsed for it. >> and officials say that they
