1 INTRODUCTION Over the last three centuries, extensive global deforestation and habitat degradation (Williams, 2003) have contributed to increasing global carbon emissions (IPCC, 2023) and accelerated biodiversity loss (IPBES, 2019). Growing awareness of these threats has prompted large-scale reforestation and habitat restoration efforts aimed at countering forest loss by rapidly increasing tree cover.
