Hello, Fried Egg Golf Club members, and welcome back to Design Notebook, your periodic update on what’s happening in the golf architecture industry. In today’s edition, I talk with Ashley Mead, a partner with Geoff Ogilvy and Mike Cocking at OCM Golf, about this week’s Presidents Cup venue, Course No. 3 at Medinah Country Club.

Over the past decade, Fried Egg Golf has regularly interviewed Geoff Ogilvy and Mike Cocking, two of three founding partners of Australian golf architecture firm OCM Golf. Until now, though, we hadn’t given a feature to the third partner, Ashley Mead. There’s no particular reason for this; we’ve just crossed paths with Ogilvy and Cocking more often over the years and developed a rapport with them.

Petty Season has quickly become one of my favorite stretches of the year. For the uninitiated, “Petty Season” refers to the window between Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup captain’s picks and the official start of the team competition itself. This year, much to my delight, we have a Petty Season champion.

I grew up playing golf competitively and caddied for ten years. I've also always enjoyed - usually responsibly - betting on sports. These worlds collided when I went to college, where I spent an absurd amount of time watching PGA Tour Live and building models to predict golf. When I heard Andy on a podcast for the first time, I immediately knew I'd found a voice I wanted to follow.
