Its broad oak frame seems weighty, almost primitive, while the pointed cutouts in its crest rail convey an unexpected delicacy.

What began in the 1940s as a modest house in a woodsy Southampton enclave had seen more than a few re-vamps by the time Jessica Schuster’s longtime clients bought it, including a significant expansion by the immediately previous owners. The place looked dreamily pastoral from the outside, with white stucco cladding, multipaned windows and a fairy-tale tower enclosing the main stair.

Jeffrey Graetsch and Debbie August, partners in the Soho gallery Raisonné, share a mad passion for design. Their Crosby Street space showcases uncommon, meticulously researched and documented pieces by 20th- and 21st-century masters, with an emphasis on mid-century French and radical Italian material. Hallowed names like Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, Pierre Paulin and Ettore Sottsass are represented.

I am one of those lucky people whose parents got them piano lessons as a kid. I am also one of those people who did not care about taking piano lessons. If the viral (and insanely divisive) transparent footwear featured in June’s Saint Laurent men’s show made anything, ahem, clear, it’s that statement-making shoes are staging a comeback. The appetite for shocking fashion tends to rise and fall with the season, but funky footwear has been tiptoeing onto the market for years and seems to be here to stay. McQueen, Loewe and Dior are just a few brands pushing the boundaries of late, to great success.

You already know that you can shop on 1stDibs for items like limited-edition Hermès bags and vintage Eames lounge chairs. But did you know that you could buy an entire house on the site? The house in questions is one of Ferdinand Fillod’s Tropical Pavilions, prefabricated homes, or prefabs, originally designed by the French architect in 1947. This model, offered on 1stDibs by Galerie Clément Cividino, is believed to have been manufactured in 1951.

Summer gatherings are all about loosening up.
