Court today for a 47 year old man after he allegedly strangled and assaulted his partner last month. Police allege the man assaulted his partner inside their south Canberra residence on September 24th. During the incident, he allegedly strangled the woman, struck her in the head multiple times, attempted to suffocate her, and assaulted her with a belt. The incident was reported to police and the 47-year-old man was arrested in the City last night.

A new world-class city stadium for Canberra could be on the cards after all, with the owners of Canberra Airport proposing a new concept. The Airport Group is negotiating to secure land for a new stadium in the city, which they say would be worthy of the nation’s capital. It’s reported that the airport is forming a consortium of businesses to spearhead the development for a venue.

The ACT Government has released the revised, final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Light Rail Stage 2B Commonwealth Park to Woden. Community and stakeholder input has helped shape the project, with the EIS now revised to reflect the feedback. These changes improve safety, traffic arrangements and environmental and urban design outcomes. One of the adjustments includes grass-lined light rail tracks around Parliament House and down Adelaide being swapped for drought-conscious gravel.

A 23-year-old Gordon man has been charged with possessing child abuse material after he was intercepted by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers at Canberra Airport yesterday. ABF officers selected the man for examination yesterday morning after he arrived on a flight from Bali. During the examination, they allegedly located child exploitation material on his mobile phone.

The Liberal Senate Candidate for the ACT says local businesses will be forced to absorb card fees, after the Tax Office announced it wouldn’t anymore. After November 30, residents will not be able to use a credit card to make payments to the ATO. Nick Tyrrell claims it will put local businesses in a vulnerable position, and says businesses rely on a card to manage cash flow. He’s also criticised the timing of the announcement, saying the department waited until the ban took effect to announce it.
