Court today for a 36 year old Holt woman, after she was allegedly caught drink driving at more than eight times the legal limit. Between 5pm and 7:30pm yesterday, police received multiple reports of a grey Kia Sorento driving erratically on Wattle Street and Ginninderra Drive in Lyneham. The car was allegedly driving onto gutters, swerving across lanes, rapidly accelerating and deaccelerating, and on one occasion reversed into a parked vehicle.

Reactions continue to the news of the Integrity Commissions findings that the Deputy Chief Minister’s then chief of staff engaged in serious corrupt conduct. Master Builders ACT CEO, Anna Neelagama, has responded to the findings, saying they demonstrate that the procurement system in the ACT is not delivering value for money for the territory and an urgent review of all processes is needed.

Transport Canberra bus services will stop between 9.30am and 1.30pm Thursday July 30 to allow for all bus drivers to attend an important meeting. The Transport Workers Union is conducting the meeting, and say it is a necessary step towards finalising a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. Limited services will be available between 9am and 9.30am and 1pm to 1.30pm to allow for drivers to come off the road for the meeting and services to start back up.

A community health hub in the city may be closed until August 7th as asbestos testing and remediation work continues. Infrastructure Canberra has provided an update on the temporary closure at at 1 Moore Street after asbestos containing material was found within the building. Preliminary results indicate that several occupied areas across multiple floors have been cleared of the material, with results from the remainder of the testing program still pending.

Construction continues to progress on schedule for light rail services from the city to Commonwealth Park expected to begin operating in early 2028. Recent work on extending light rail includes the installation of rail across the intersection of London Circuit and Commonwealth Avenue, and the installation of the final canopy at the Commonwealth Park and City South stops. New accessible pedestrian verges on London Circuit in front of the Sydney and Melbourne buildings are also now open for use.

A new report from the Australian National University has found almost half of the population have used artificial intelligence, but there are still concerns about the technology. Researchers from the Schools of Cybernetics & Politics and International Relations surveyed more than 3,500 adults and found 48% of them have used AI at least once. Two-thirds of respondents believed the Government should be responsible for governing AI, while almost half say an independent authority should do it.

Flights return to Coffs Harbour from Canberra A new seasonal route from Canberra to Coffs Harbour is set to take off this spring. Link Airways has announced the return of direct seasonal services between Canberra and Coffs Harbour, with flights starting on September 10. The ACT resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball on Thursday June 25th, but had no idea of his good fortune until almost two weeks after the draw.

The ACT Government is seeking feedback on its draft Youth Justice Strategic Plan 2026-2031. The Plan sets out a five year roadmap for a therapeutic youth justice system that is focused on supporting young people to contribute to the community. Minister for Children, Youth and Families Michael Pettersson says community input will play an important role in shaping the strategy. Public consultation is open through the Your Say website until August 11.
