350.org
Non-profit
350.org was founded in 2008 by a group of university friends in the United States along with author Bill McKibben, who wrote one of the first books on global warming for the general public. The goal was to build a global climate movement. 350 was named after 350 parts per million — the safe concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Our first actions were global days of action that linked activists and organizations around the world, including the International Day of Climate Action in 2009, the Global Work Party in 2010, Moving Planet in 2011. 350 quickly became a planet-wide collaboration of organizers, community groups and regular people fighting for a fossil free future.
Today 350 works on grassroots campaigns across the globe: from opposing coal plants and mega-pipelines, to supporting renewable energy solutions and cutting financial flows to fossil fuels. All of our work leverages people power to dismantle the influence and infrastructure of the fossil fuel industry.
Some of our proudest moments of recent years include campaigning against the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines in the United States; stopping fracking in hundreds of cities in Brazil and Argentina; pushing more than 1,000 universities, foundations, cities and churches to divest more than $12 trillion from fossil fuels; and joining historic grassroots mobilizations like the People's Climate March and Global Climate Strike. In a social media post this week, US President Trump suggested that the Keystone XL pipeline project could be “awoken from the grave,” without providing further details or clarifying whether the remark was connected to an ongoing tariffs negotiation with Canada. This is not the first time Trump has tried to revive this project that was first cancelled by president Barack Obama in 2015 following relentless people-powered pressure. In 2017, Trump signed an executive order in support of KXL.
Drought Alarm at Lake İznik, in Türkiye: “The Climate Crisis is Here”
Water levels at Lake İznik – the largest natural lake in the Marmara Region and the fifth largest in Türkiye – have dropped to critical levels. Alongside rising temperatures and evaporation, intensive and illegal water use for agricultural and industrial purposes is exacerbating water loss. 350 Türkiye demands authorities to take this devastating impact of the climate crisis on wetlands seriously.
Government’s proposed Free Basic Electricity increase is welcome, but 350 kWh and access for all must be the goal.
Johannesburg, South Africa—350Africa welcomes government’s proposal to increase the Free Basic Electricity (FBE) allocation for low-income households, recognising that the current 50 kWh allocation is outdated and no longer reflects the electricity needs of households today. According to reports following the Electricity Minister’s media briefing, government is considering increasing the FBE allocation to between 200 and 300 kWh per month.
350.org Caribbean: Not a single life more should be lost to extreme heat
Authorities must enact urgent measures to ensure that not a single life more should be lost to extreme heat, climate group 350.org Caribbean said amid heatwaves and drought currently gripping the country. Metro Puerto Rico recently reported on a study published in The Journal of Climate Change and Health, which found a consistent association between extreme heat events and an increase in deaths from cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and respiratory diseases.
Governments must tax Big Oil's profits as UN tax treaty talks advance
As droughts and wildfires damage economies, 350.org called on governments to push for a global tax treaty that can make big oil and gas corporations pay for mounting climate costs. This week in New York, governments wrapped up negotiations for the UN Tax Convention with some governments strongly pushing for a global tax system aligned with the Paris Agreement and other environmental treaties, which can hold big polluters accountable for climate damage.

Out of Pocket: The real cost of fossil fuels (and AI) on our household bills
This is a guest blog by Rebecca Stoner, Senior US Communications Campaigner at Oil Change International, a research, communications, and advocacy organization working to expose the true costs of fossil fuels and facilitate the ongoing transition to clean energy. Globally, over 1 billion people lack reliable access to energy they can afford. Across the US and the world, families are being squeezed by rising energy costs.
Indonesian wildfires point to climate crisis, not just El Niño
Wildfires raging across Indonesia and producing regional transboundary haze are fueled by human-caused climate change, not just El Niño, and need more urgent and lasting measures to protect communities, people’s health, and biodiversity, 350.org said. The climate group pointed out that while authorities are quick to blame El Niño, the natural phenomenon arrived on top of higher global baseline temperatures, triggering more extreme weather.
‘This is arson’: 350.org reacts to wildfires in North America
North America is enduring an intense wildfire season, with new fires sparking and existing ones merging into larger, faster-moving blazes. Thousands have been forced to evacuate as fires rage across British Columbia in Canada, and California and Nevada in the United States, with local authorities declaring a state of emergency.
As extreme heat wipes off EU’s economic growth, fossil fuel profits must pay for ‘arson’
Economic losses from extreme heat and drought could wipe off much of the economic growth expected across Europe, according to a new report by the Dutch bank Triodos. The bank warns that weaker labour productivity and agricultural losses could shave off roughly €180 billion ($208 billion), equivalent to 1% of the European Union’s GDP. 350.org said climate-driven economic contraction punishes European households with lower incomes and higher costs, while oil and gas companies reap the rewards.
