AMAZEMET, a company advancing research and development in materials science and additive manufacturing, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fusion for Energy (F4E), the EU organization responsible for Europe’s contribution to ITER and other major fusion projects. The five-year agreement sets a bilateral framework for cooperation on metal additive manufacturing and advanced material joining technologies for fusion energy applications.
This amorphous polymer is engineered for SLS 3D printing
Reactive polyetherimide (xPEI) polymer engineered specifically for selective laser sintering (SLS) maintains the isotropic properties typical of a PEI polymer in high-value, high-temperature production applications. Amorphous materials have a disordered molecular structure with no repeating pattern. This lack of order at the molecular level often gives the material its main advantages when processed with AM: ease of processing, smooth surface finish and transparency.
ENGO turns to titanium additive manufacturing for its lightest AR running glasses yet
Grenoble-based ENGO has launched Engo Titanium, a pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses for runners and cyclists. Their 3D printed titanium structure brings the weight down to 28.9 grams. Every gram counts in sports eyewear. Traditional sports glasses weigh between 25 and 40 grams without any electronics, so a smart device has about 15 grams left for its display, battery and sensors. ENGO tackled that limit with Engo Titanium.
Vinci raises $250M for “physics intelligence”
US-based software company Vinci secures a Series B round to help engineers early enough how their designs behave, with a technology based on physics intelligence. The funding round is led by by Advent, Temasek and Xora Innovation, with participation from AMD, Eclipse, Khosla Ventures, Madrona and others, at a $1.5 billion valuation. From stealth to unicorn in under a year Vinci was founded in 2023 by Hardik Kabaria (CEO) and Sarah Osentoski.
Mimir acquires Osprey from Sandvik. It is now a standalone company.
Osprey, once known as the AM material product from Sandvik is now a standalone company. The new advanced materials company has been acquired by Mimir that specializes in acquiring divisions and business areas from larger groups and driving powerful, global growth through strategic investment in high-technology businesses. The acquisition process was announced a few months ago and in between, Sandvik introduced a new metal powder in Osprey®’s portfolio.
Inside BMW Group’s additive manufacturing reality
January 2025: Jens Ertel stepped back from his role as Head of BMW Additive Manufacturing, passing the torch to Timo Goebel. A leadership change of that weight deserves time for the successor to settle into his new role, assess and decide what to carry forward and what to do differently. So, we waited a year for this conversation to happen, and it was worth it.
3D printing initiative aims to broaden horizons for children in hospital education
The University of Nottingham will provide school staff working in hospital education with the skills and confidence to run hands-on investigative projects using 3D printing. The project has been funded by a Royal Society Science Community Grant and will initially involve 25 schools.
Le fabricant d’imprimantes 3D Bambu Lab a lancé Make for Good: Accessibility Design Contest, un challenge consacré à l’accessibilité sur MakerWorld.
