Darcee Garbin named Tasmania Jewels Captain
One of Australia’s most decorated basketballers has been named the inaugural Captain of the Tasmania Jewels WNBL side. Hailing from Western Australia, Darcee Garbin came to the Tasmania Jewels as a multi-medal winning Australian Opal, having won two WNBL championships with the Townsville Fire, as well as captaining the Perth Lynx previously. “I’m beyond honoured and proud,” she said.
Is the Devil Really Tasmanian?
New research out of the University of New South Wales has found evidence that Tasmanian devils lived in the Pilbara region of Western Australia for around 45,000 years. Dr Tim Churchill is one of the team who identified two ancient devil bones from Juukan 2 rockshelter: part of a jaw dating to between 6,900 and 7,300 years ago, and part of a tooth believed to be between about 42,500 and 47,100 years old.
