Ladies and gentlemen, after one of the longest offseasons in recent memory... we're back with this year's edition of my SEC power rankings! Now, before we get started, I want to go over one or two house rules for the rankings.

Alabama men's basketball added to its 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon, with Yea Alabama, the Crimson Tide's NIL collective, announcing that 2027 guard Chase Lumpkin has committed to the Crimson Tide. "Alabama feels like home,: Lumpkin told Yea Alabama. "I believe in Coach Oats, Coach Murphy, the coaching staff, the players, and what they're building.

It's no secret that Nashville is the home of country music, and the vast majority of country stars choose to live in Music City so they can be right in the middle of the action when it comes to the country music industry. However, a few country stars have left Nashville over the years and continued to succeed at just as high a level — but they're the exception. The most obvious example of a country star who doesn't live in Nashville is George Strait.

The Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office has moved this year to take dozens of vehicles from drivers accused of running from police at dangerous speeds. DA Hays Webb said the shift in local forfeiture practice is aimed at preventing pursuits like the one that made a smoldering wreck of a TPD patrol cruiser that crashed into a parked car and power pole last week.

OK, I admit upfront I am a very big Apple fan and an even bigger fan of Steve Jobs. I’ve seen all the movies about him, and even read a couple of the books, and I know he had a dark side to his personality. In some ways, many folks who were close to him say that is the reason he was such a perfectionist and a world changer. I don’t see how anybody could argue the world-changer part of Steve Jobs' résumé. Just look at the device you are probably holding in your hand.

Luke Bryan and Luke Combs have a new duet called "Finders Keepers" on Bryan's upcoming album Signs, which drops on Sept. 18. While the two country superstars haven't yet announced any plans to perform it together, I have a pretty good idea of when that could happen. I recently caught up with Bryan on Taste of Country Nights and asked him if we could eventually see him and Combs perform the song together onstage one day. His answer was basically, yes -- it's just a matter of finding the right time.

Actor Michael Kelly is joining the cast of Landman for its upcoming Season 3. Paramount revealed the news in a press release on Wednesday (Sept. 9). Kelly is set to play the role of William Crockett, "the leader of the largest oil management firm in the world. He is a titan of industry and everything about him exudes efficiency and money," according to a press release. Kelly will be billed as a series regular on Landman.

A suspect has been arrested and jailed without bond for the alleged sexual assault of a University of Alabama student, though state law bars authorities from releasing almost any information about the person charged. The student reported the assault to the University of Alabama Police Department, according to Capt. Jack Kennedy, who commands the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. She told officers the person who assaulted her was an acquaintance.

Even if Darius Rucker knew that his song "I Believe" was coming out at a time when lots of people would need comfort, he couldn't have possibly predicted just how timely its message would be. The singer, who called "I Believe" his "love letter to America," surely knew that the song was entering a world that feels more divided every day.
