Police have named the father of the family of eight shot and killed inside a rural Utah home on Wednesday as a suspect in the case. Police identified the deceased as 42-year-old Michael Haight, his wife Tausha Haight, 40, their five children and 78-year-old Gail Earl, Tausha’s mother. Michael Haight is suspected of killing his family and himself. Police said in a statement that all of the deceased sustained gunshot wounds.

The U.S. House of Representatives adjourned for a third straight day on Thursday without electing a House speaker, after Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy lost his 11th consecutive vote for the position. The House voted 219-213 along party lines to reconvene noon Friday. McCarthy and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., were again nominated for speaker on Thursday, with the Democrat consistently netting all 212 Democrat votes while McCarthy went from 201 votes to 200 throughout the day.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to adjourn Wednesday night and push a seventh vote for House speaker into a third day, after Rep. Kevin McCarthy lost a sixth vote to lead Republicans as speaker of the House. The House reconvened shortly after 8 p.m. EST, when Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., raised a motion to adjourn until noon Thursday. A 15-minute electronic vote on the motion was taken after a verbal vote produced a rowdy response from both sides of the aisle.

A Southern California man has been arrested for attempted murder and child abuse after California Highway Patrol officials say he intentionally drove a Tesla over a cliff on the Pacific Coast Highway with his wife and two children in the car. California Highway Patrol confirmed the driver of the car, 41-year-old Dharmesh A. Patel, of Pasadena, California, will face attempted murder and child abuse charges for the Jan. 2 incident.

Amber McLaughlin died by lethal injection Tuesday night in Missouri, becoming the first openly transgender woman to be executed in the U.S.  McLaughlin began her transition in prison about three years ago. According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, McLaughlin was pronounced dead at 6:51 p.m. at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre. McLaughlin said in a final, written, statement before her execution: “I am sorry for what I did.

De La Soul’s classic albums are finally coming to streaming services on March 3. The hip-hop legends’ run from 1989 through 2001 will be released digitally via De La Soul band member Maseo’s label, AOI. Physical reissues are also set for release on March 3. The six albums coming to streaming are 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, and AOI: Bionix.

Future has dropped the video for the closing song from his album I Never Liked You, titled “Back to the Basics.” Future also previously released a live performance video for the song with Vevo back in October, which can be viewed – here. The video, directed by X Skeeboz, sees Future taking to the seas.

The attorney for Bryan Kohberger — the suspect in the fatal stabbings of four University of Idaho students — plans to waive extradition at a hearing on Tuesday. Jason LaBar, the chief public defender for Monroe County, Pennsylvania (where Kohberger was arrested) said that his client planned to waive extradition to expedite his return to Idaho.

Three New York City police officers are in stable condition after being struck by a man wielding a machete in an unprovoked attack near Times Square. According to NYPD commissioner Keechant Sewell, the attack occurred just after 10 p.m. Saturday on West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue, outside a Times Square New Year’s Eve security screening zone. Sewell said the suspect, identified only as a 19-year-old man, approached an officer and attempted to strike him over the head with a machete.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (“USGS”), a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Northern California on Sunday morning in an area where one struck less than two weeks ago. A 6.4 earthquark struck the region on Dec. 20, killing two people. The USGS said the quake about 30 miles south of Eureka and was centered about 9 miles southeast of Rio Dell and ocurred at 11:35 a.m. PDT. The earthquake occurring at a depth of about 17.3 miles, according to preliminary information from the agency.
