Volusia County Council Opts Against Charlie Kirk Road Dedication
The Volusia County Council on Tuesday opted against renaming part of a road to ‘Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway’. The idea was brought forth by Council Chair Jeff Brower to honor the late conservative activist who was assassinated in Utah on September 10th. The Council listened to feedback from residents, many of whom were charged in their opinions both for and against the proposal. Had it gone through, part of Maytown Road in Osteen would’ve been designated as Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway.
Flagler School Board Appoints Furry Vice Chair on 104th Try
The Flagler School Board at their Tuesday meeting underwent potentially the longest single continuous impasse in the history of the county’s local politics. The Board remained in a deadlock until deep into Wednesday morning. It wound up taking 104 attempts at a vote before the Board could appoint a vice chair. The role was ultimately given to Will Furry at 2:53 am. There were 104 votes taken in an attempt to appoint a vice chair.
Full Lineup Announced for 2026 Welcome to Rockville
The full band lineup of Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville festival has been announced by festival organizers. The festival, which takes place from May 7th to 10th, 2026, is held annually at Daytona International Speedway. The headliners of the festival feature some of the most legendary names ever to play rock and metal music. Guns N’ Roses, the Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, and Bring Me the Horizon are the main stage headliners for each of the festival’s four days.
FCSO Details Domestic Struggle That Led to Apartment Shooting
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office updated the community following a shooting that injured two at the Beach Village Apartments in Palm Coast. One juvenile was shot in the leg, after that very juvenile shot the other victim in the midst of a violent domestic conflict. Fortunately, no one was killed in the shooting. 22-year-old Tyree Smith was shot multiple times and later taken for medical treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.
Volusia Schools Chosen for Safety Drone Program
Volusia County is one of three counties in the state which will have a pilot program for security drones at its public schools. Along with Broward and Leon counties, Volusia County Schools will be one of the first to access a program designed to combat major safety threats. The program is being facilitated by Campus Guardian Angel, a company based out of Texas.
2 People Shot in Palm Coast Apartment Complex
Two people were shot at the Beach Village Apartments living facility Sunday, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Though registered to a Palm Coast address, the complex is just on the mainland side of the Flagler Beach bridge, adjacent to the Beach Village Publix location. The FCSO took to social media to announce a large-scale response to the area on Sunday at 9:22 pm. Few details were provided in the initial report. The FCSO described the incident as a ‘domestic disturbance with weapons’.
JR Motorsports Will Return for 2026 Daytona 500
For the second straight year, JR Motorsports will enter the No. 40 Chevrolet in the Daytona 500 with Justin Allgaier driving. The longtime NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series team made its Cup Series debut in last year’s race, with Allgaier in the No. 40 sponsored by Traveller Whiskey. On Friday, JR Motorsports confirmed that Traveller Whiskey will be returning to sponsor the entry for a second straight year.
Daytona Beach Trader Joe’s Opens for Business
At long last, Volusia County residents won’t be required to drive to the Orlando area if they want to shop at Trader Joe’s. The supermarket chain with a cult following finally opened its new location in Daytona Beach on Friday, ushering in guests to satiate their long-simmering anticipation. The new Trader Joe’s is located at 1507 Cornerstone Boulevard, part of the Tomoka Town Center shopping area.
Palm Coast Man Arrested for Alleged Relationship with Minor
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Brandon Raymond this week for allegedly having an ongoing inappropriate relationship with a minor, the agency announced Thursday. Raymond is accused of having relations with the victim, described only as ‘teenage’, both electronically and in person. Records show Raymond resides in Palm Coast’s P Section. The investigation began on September 16th, when the parent of the victim contacted the FCSO.
