Ball State names starting quarterback for season opener at Ohio State
Aug. 24, 2026, 10:34 a.m. ET The Ohio State Buckeyes now know which quarterback they will be facing off against in the Week 1 season opener. Ball State named Keldric Luster its starting quarterback for the Sept. 5 matchup against the top-ranked Buckeyes. Luster is a redshirt junior transfer who has previously played for SMU and Texas State. Luster won the job over Division II transfer Tyler Mizzell during the Cardinals' preseason competition.

In this case, Ohio State will have seven captains for just the seventh time in the program's history. That seems like a lot, but all of the guys that were announced make sense.
