Untimely Typhoon: Hong Kong Observatory will consider T8 signal…but probably just overnight
Holding out for a typhoon day tomorrow? In true unaccommodating Hong Kong weather style, it looks like the Observatory may raise the T8 signal… but probably just overnight. Boo! We all got our hopes up today when classes at nurseries and special schools were suspended before a T3 signal was raised and gusts of 62km/h were recorded at Ngong Ping. Why should the kids have all the fun?
Porsche-driving ‘gangster’ abuses bus driver, gets busted for drugs after video goes viral
People who drive Porsches and claim to be triad members are probably used to getting away with acting like assholes. But one of the good things about the modern age is that acts of intimidation are rarely a match for the power of social media. A video recently went viral in Hong Kong showing a man verbally and physically abusing a minibus driver in an apparent road rage incident.
HK immigrant allegedly stabbed to death by teen girls in Toronto while protecting his friend
Friends and family of Ken Lee, a 59-year-old immigrant from Hong Kong living in Toronto, say he died heroically while defending a female friend. Lee, who was unhoused at the time of his death and living in the city’s shelter system, died on December 18, 2022, near Toronto’s Union Station. The city’s police disclosed his name earlier this week in a press release updating the public on his homicide investigation.
Failed crash-for-cash scammer flops around road 77 times after not getting hit by car (video)
People who are willing to risk getting hit by a car for the promise of a cash payout is not a new phenomenon in Hong Kong. As horrendous as the crash-for-cash concept is, we can’t help but be impressed by the effort this particular scammer put into selling his performance, even after he failed to get hit by his target. The dash cam video was taken on New Year’s Day at around 2am on Argyle Street in Mong Kok.

Those of you who were hoping to purchase your very own authentic Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton to live out your Jurassic Park fantasies are out of luck for the time being as the sale of the very first T-rex skeleton ever to be offered at auction in Asia has been canceled, potentially due to fossil fraud.
‘Curious’ cops disciplined for looking up info on woman in viral balcony sex clip | Coconuts
After a clip of a couple in Hong Kong having sex on a balcony went viral in June, leading to the arrest of the man and woman allegedly involved in the incident, Hong Kong police force insiders recently revealed to the media that several cops not involved in the case been disciplined for using the force’s internal computer records to find out what the woman looked like.
A wanderer’s guide to the Foo Tak Building, Hong Kong’s hidden, unpretentious arts hub
Nestled along the busy Hennessy Road in Wan Chai, the Foo Tak Building may just look like a regular Chinese tenement residential block from the outside. But behind this unassuming exterior is actually a vibrant hub for Hong Kong artists. Built in 1968, the 14-storey tenement block was originally home to residential units and small businesses.
Review: Sushi Rin stands out in Hong Kong’s omakase scene with its wide variety of captivatingly well-crafted dishes
Nov 7, 2022 | 12:30pm Hong Kong time Due to the strict dining restrictions caused by the pandemic, which have only recently begun to ease, it has become commonplace to see restaurants fold in Hong Kong recently. But one type of eatery that has continued opening in large numbers is Japanese omakase restaurants. It seems like Hongkongers just can’t get enough of them.
State-of-the-art tech makes London Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert screening sound almost like the real thing
One of the perks of watching a live orchestral performance is that you can better appreciate the musical textures and nuances of a piece in a way that conventional recordings can’t capture. But what if a screening of a prerecorded concert could give you a comparable, or, dare I say, an even better audio and visual experience than the actual thing? It’s a very real question I’m asking myself after being treated to the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s recent concert screening in Hong Kong.
