Desert Financial Arena (DFA), home of Arizona State men’s basketball among other sports, opened in April 1974 and was originally named the University Activity Center. Over the last several years, the venue has long been rumored to receive a long-overdue facelift. These days, though, it seems as if the wait is closer than ever to being over. ASU's athletic director, Graham Rossini, expressed earlier this week that these whispers of change have morphed into a top-line priority.

May 2024 marked a brand new chapter in the history of Arizona State athletics, with the hiring of alumnus Graham Rossini as the university’s newest athletic director following the departure of Ray Anderson, who served in that capacity for roughly a decade. Year one brought a whirlwind of unanticipated success for Sun Devil athletics as the school transitioned from its former home in the Pac-12 Conference to the Big 12 Conference in the vast majority of its sports.

When the 2025-26 season begins in November, Arizona State’s basketball team, which went 13-20, 4-16 in Big 12 play and finished 15th in the conference standings, will look unrecognizable from last year’s squad. Following ASU’s disappointing season, the program was gutted by departures. While only two scholarship players were lost to graduation, nine others transferred out. Ultimately, only one scholarship player, guard Trevor Best, remained from last year’s roster.

Williams has reportedly received offers from other Power Four schools such as ASU's Big 12 foes Kansas State and West Virginia, as well as Minnesota, Louisville, Auburn, Arkansas, and SMU.
