Attendees may have had to wait in lines of traffic, but by the time the aviation performances began, they knew the wait was worth it. For the first time in eight years, Naval Air Station Patuxent River hosted its airshow this past weekend. When the gates opened at 9 a.m., visitors could view a variety of aerial vehicles and exhibits from local organizations.

While many residents and out-of-town visitors are looking forward to Naval Air Station Patuxent River’s airshow this month, they should plan to abide by the base’s safety protocols. Visitors 18 years and older must provide a real ID when entering the event, Commander Stephen Porter, Base Air Operations officer and air show coordinator, said at this week’s joint meeting between the St. Mary’s County commissioners and Navy base officials. Individuals without a real ID can present a passport.

On June 3 the Command Religious Program (CRP) at Naval Support Activity South Potomac proudly honored the volunteers whose dedication, generosity and compassion continue to uplift the chapel community. Aspen Ellerbe of Drayden, a sophomore at Leonardtown High School, is ready to take the stage in a few weeks. On Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6, dancers from the Ballet Caliente Classical School of Dance in California will perform “In Pursuit of Happiness,” a ballet that celebrates America’s 250th anniversary. Ellerbe has danced for the company since March 2021 when she moved to St. Mary's County from Virginia.
