Experience is the best teacher – and they learned many lessons in Murano, during their sessions at the crack of dawn by the warm kilns where glass is blown. As beginners, they were given the first shift, starting at six o’clock in the morning. “Our perseverance paid off,” recalls Edoardo Pandolfo, who co-founded the 6:AM brand with Francesco Palù, named in honour of those early-morning starts during their apprenticeship.

L’esperienza insegna, e di lezioni ne hanno prese parecchie in quel di Murano, nelle livide albe al caldo delle fornaci dove si soffia il vetro. Alle prime armi, venivano relegati nel primo slot, quello delle sei di mattina. «La costanza ci ha premiato», ricorda Edoardo Pandolfo, che con Francesco Palù ha fondato il brand 6:AM, in memoria delle levatacce ai tempi della gavetta. «Piano piano ci siamo guadagnati il rispetto dei maestri vetrai, che ci hanno iniziati ai segreti delle tecniche».

In ogni edificio di Dorte Mandrup si ritrovano empatia, gentilezza, impegno e interesse verso le persone. Sono gli ingredienti con i quali l’architetta danese – classe 1960, uno studio a Copenaghen dove lavorano quasi cento giovani equamente suddivisi fra uomini e donne – realizza la sua ricetta per l’abitare del futuro, un’‘architettura della cura’ che mette sempre al centro del progetto gli individui e le collettività.

In all of Dorte Mandrup’s buildings we find empathy, kindness, commitment and interest in people. They are the ingredients which the Danish architect – born in 1960, she has a practice in Copenhagen with a staff of almost a hundred young people, divided equally between men and women – uses in her recipe for the dwelling of the future, an ‘architecture of care’ that always puts individuals and the community at the centre of the project.

Il sottile piano con struttura di acciaio inossidabile ideato dagli architetti dello studio madrileno BURR è in realtà una cucina. Ideato nell’ambito del progetto di ristrutturazione di un ex edificio industriale a Madrid, destinato a diventare lo studio dell’artista Esther Merinero, il tavolo integra al centro una piastra a induzione nascosta da un coperchio.

The ultra-thin tabletop with stainless steel frame, designed by the architects of the Madrid-based studio BURR, is actually a kitchen. Designed as part of the renovation project for a former industrial building in Madrid – and now to become the studio of artist Esther Merinero – the table has an induction hob at its centre, concealed underneath a cover. It also incorporates an ice bucket that can double as a vase if required that is easily emptied by pulling out a plug in its base.
