The main objective was to analyse the clinical effectiveness of ramus mini-implant-assisted traction of mandibular second molars with eruption disturbances. A prospective study was carried out during a 3-year period. A total of 16 patients with 19 impacted mandibular second molars underwent surgical exposure followed by implant-assisted orthodontic traction.
Influence of genetic and environmental factors on transverse growth
The aim of the study was to determine the genetic and environmental effects on transverse growth of craniofacial structures, within and between identical and fraternal twins. The sample consisted of 142 children in total, divided into 29 pairs of monozygotic twins, 42 pairs of dizygotic twins, and 1 set of dizygotic triplets. Postero-anterior cephalometric radiographs were taken at the ages of 9, 12, and 15 years.

Fixed orthodontic appliances can produce either planned or unplanned proclination of incisors. Proclination of lower incisors may be used to gain space in patients with space requirements who are not amenable to extractions. Direction of the tooth movement and the periodontal phenotype may play important roles in soft tissue alterations during orthodontic treatment [1, 2].
Inflammation alters the expression and activity of the mechanosensitive ion channels in periodontal ligament cells
Periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) possess mechanotransduction capability, vital in orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and maintaining periodontal homeostasis. The study aims to elucidate the expression profiles of mechanosensitive ion channel (MIC) families in PDLCs and how the inflammatory mediator alters their expression and function, advancing the understanding of the biological process of OTM. Human PDLCs were cultured and exposed to TNF-α.

A new clinical index scale for measuring secondary alveolar bone grafting success based on canine eruption
To develop a reproducible, reliable clinical index of alveolar bone grafting (ABG) outcome based on the eruption position of the cleft canine tooth and determine the association between eruption position and radiographic outcome at 6 months post-grafting. Children with complete, non-syndromic, unilateral/bilateral cleft lip and palate in the West of Scotland were identified.

The palatal rugae are irregular ridges, located on the mucosa of the hard palate distal to the incisive papilla and lateral to the mid-palatal suture [1, 2]. The reason for their existence has not been fully clarified [3]. However, embryonic rugae have long been thought to contribute to the elevation of the palatal shelves, from the sides of the tongue to a horizontal position above the tongue’s dorsum.
