Since 1965, we’ve protected the nature we all love – our unique wildlife and our beautiful beaches and bush.
Driven by the power of people, we won World Heritage listing for the Great Barrier Reef and Kakadu National Park, and returned precious water to the rivers of the Murray-Darling.
We influence governments and businesses to protect the animals, rivers and reefs close to our hearts and hold decision-makers to account without fear or favour. Everything we do is evidence-based and helps nature and people thrive for generations to come.
We won’t give up until Australia’s nature is protected and regenerated.

Fracking the Beetaloo can and should be banned
The first fracked gas from the Northern Territory’s Beetaloo Basin is on its way to Darwin signalling the start of an environmental disaster that can and should be banned. The national environment group, Australian Conservation Foundation, has called on Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt to use his position to call in fracking related projects for assessment of their water impacts under the EPBC Act.
Beetaloo gas-fired data centres a nightmare
In response to the news Queensland and the Northern Territory will be allowed to power data centres with coal and gas, Australian Conservation Foundation CEO Adam Bandt said: “Fracked gas data centres will be a nightmare, but the Prime Minister appears to be backing them. “The Northern Territory government wants to use fracked gas from the Beetaloo Basin to power energy-hungry data centres, a move that will ignite a climate bomb and put artesian water at risk.
‘Disappointing’ standards fall short of what’s needed to protect nature
The initial National Environmental Standards released today do not deliver the strong nature protection the Albanese government promised with its reform of the national nature law, the Australian Conservation Foundation said. “These disappointing standards do not set out clear and specific rules to strengthen nature protection,” said ACF’s national biodiversity policy adviser Brendan Sydes.

Shifting Tomago to renewables a ‘crucial step’

Commbank to face nature risk shareholder resolution
Nearly 200 Commonwealth Bank shareholders have filed a shareholder resolution calling on the bank to set out the steps it will take to become deforestation-free. The shareholder resolution, which will go to CommBank’s annual meeting on 14 October, is facilitated by the Australian Conservation Foundation and SIX and co-filed by Australian Ethical, Ethinvest and 196 shareholders.
