It was self-directed and edited by Myah herself, fleshing out a full 12-minute comedy horror short film for this track, telling a story of her past mistakes and heartbreak. Myah, being a filmmaker, has taken inspiration from popular movies for her music videos.

However, that means that I’ve saved my most important love letter for last, as I’ve been contemplating on who I should dedicate it to since I started this column in January.

The band put out a statement accompanying their latest single, “12 Blown Tires,” explaining that when they recorded the track, they had the sense they were distilling their 15 years of existence into four minutes of music and that it signified an end for them.

Their songs about growing older, falling in love and the feelings of loneliness and nostalgia identified with me at the time as I was going through the motions of high school. Now, I look to them still for the same themes and as a reminder of those days.

By Grace Koennecke, Managing Editor My sophomore year of college, I became completely obsessed with Snail Mail’s 2021 sophomore album, Valentine. The band, fronted by lead singer Lindsey Jordan, was on a relatively good high after the release of their debut album from 2018, titled Lush, but its follow-up in my opinion solidified Jordan as a songwriter to watch. I think I gravitated toward this album so much not only because of Jordan’s writing, but also her vulnerability.

She has always been someone I listen to when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the daily experiences of being young. Whether it’s feeling misunderstood, heartbroken, lonely or frustrated, the New Zealand singer-songwriter’s relatability has been able to transcend overtime, not just for me, but for countless fans around the world.

Luckily, Mannequin Pussy, a female-fronted alt-punk band from Philadelphia, is the perfect remedy to cure one’s feelings of anger and bitterness, even for someone like me who doesn’t naturally gravitate towards punk music.
