Presented under the theme “Her Story • Her Voice • Her Stage | 1956–2026,” this year’s festival commemorates the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women’s March, honouring the resilience, creativity, and leadership of women through a multidisciplinary programme that brings together acclaimed local and international artists, cultural practitioners, and audiences.

After charming audiences during its celebrated festival run, including an international premiere at the 2026 Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) and closing BFI Flare’s 50th anniversary, visionary young Black queer filmmaker, Sandulela Asanda’s, debut feature Black Burns Fast hits local cinemas on 31 July. Written by Asanda, the film is produced by the team behind the critically acclaimed Inxeba and This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection.

Netflix today released the teaser for Umthetho, a powerful new South African drama series premiering on 14 August 2026.
