Today, Netflix announced an expansive slate of local series and films to celebrate a decade of showcasing South African stories that supported more than 8,000 jobs through partnerships with over 30 local production companies.

Let’s cast a shadow over the prison system and its officials. That may not necessarily have been the initial intent of Umthetho, the newly released Netflix crime drama and South African adaptation of the Brazilian series Brotherhood (Irmandade), which first premiered in 2019. Written by Asanda, the film is produced by the team behind the critically acclaimed Inxeba and This Is Not A Burial, It’s A Resurrection.
