NEW DELHI, INDIA (25 June 2026) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $42.2 million small expenditure financing facility (SEFF) to develop the bamboo industry in India’s northeastern states, boosting agricultural productivity, strengthening rural livelihoods, and reducing dependence on imports.

Health systems across Asia and the Pacific face growing financial strain. Populations are aging fast and more people are living for decades with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. As demand for care grows, the contributions from the working population that help fund many of these systems cannot keep up. At the same time, international aid is declining.
