Adpulp
Online/Digital
AdPulp offers a unique point of view on the most pressing topics of our day in marketing communications. We work in the business, think about, talk about and write about the business.
Why? Because we’re obsessed, and we believe there’s a better way to garner consumer attention and brand loyalty.
We’re advocates and critics, but first and foremost we’re practitioners, so we understand the pain of being thrown under the bus, of working late nights, of dealing with difficult clients.
In short, we’re ad grunts, and AdPulp is our salute to fellow ad grunts of the world. Source

When Content Degrades and Distracts, Advertising Suffers Too
Advertising is a parasite that depends on the blood of its host—news and entertainment content—for its survival. When the body or in this case the media industry is sick, the parasite too will suffer. This is the conclusion, although not the language, of Mike Follett, managing director of eye-tracking company Lumen Research (and a former agency-side account planner). He spoke to Nathan Heller of The New Yorker.
AI Is Not the Problem, Lack of Original Thinking Is the Problem
How many times have marketers been told—mostly by other marketers—that the new tech is the best tech? So many times…remember when every brand had to have a home in Second Life? It was an absurd thing to say then, as it is today when the new new thing has to be tested, twisted, and made useful to real people. Nevertheless, promoters gonna promote. And Fast Company is a favorite media vehicle of promoters.
Republican Accountability PAC to Invest $50M to Defeat Trump
Is the GOP on the verge of collapse? I doubt it, but there are obvious signs of decay, including the fact that a substantial chunk of Republican primary and caucus voters told pollsters that they would be so dissatisfied if Donald Trump became the party’s presidential nominee—and it looks like he will—that they would not vote for him in November’s general election. In related news, The New York Times is reporting that a Republican Super PAC is prepared to spend $50M to help defeat Trump.
You Don't Watch The Oscars for the Commercials, But You Could
Traditional advertising showcases are few and far between today, along with opportunities to appeal to a mass audience. Last night’s Academy Awards is one. According to Variety, the 2023 Oscars earned an audience of 18.75 million—more than double the most popular shows on TV (NCIS and FBI). The best “commercial” of the evening was “I’m Just Ken,’ performed by Ryan Gossling and Mark Ronson, with a guest appearance by Slash.
GoDaddy Airo Takes You from Idea to 'Up and Running' in Minutes
Coming up with a unique brand name that you can legitimately own and a domain name to go with it, is tough to do. All the good names and dot coms seem to be taken. Starting now, you can ask GoDaddy’s AI assistant for help. In the days of yore, you input a domain name into GoDaddy to see if it was available. Now, you can “prompt” Airo and see a list of results where every suggested domain is available.
Historic Images Made by Robert Capa Repurposed to Promote Peace
Last December, the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London published its annual Armed Conflict Survey. The survey paints a grim picture of rising violence in many regions across the globe, documenting a total of 183 conflicts for 2023, the highest number in three decades. For perspective, there are 195 countries in the world.
AARP Leads Battle Against Ad Industry's Ageist Hiring Practices
Are you an advertising professional in your late 30s? Great. You have about five years, give or take, to make all the money you can and reach the highest position you can. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by, because soon you’ll be too old to achieve at the highest level. You’ll also be too old to get a new job or keep the one you have.
If Microsoft Is My Copilot, I Must Be Flying the Plane
Jasper, Claud, Clara, Bixby, Cleo…these are some of the AI assistants eagerly awaiting your queries and your manufactured need for speed. The field is growing crowded, which makes sense when you understand how much money there is to be made. The global artificial intelligence market, worth USD 136.55 Billion in 2022, is likely to grow at a 37.3% Compound Annual Growth Rate rate from 2023 to 2030.
64-Year-Old 'Kennedy for President' Ad Remade By Super PAC
A Super PAC spent $7M on a media placement during the Super Bowl, but only 36 hours to produce the spot. And they were able to run it with no input or approvals from the client. Who does that? Answer: American Values Super PAC. The spot contains no original thinking. It’s merely a clumsy recreation of an earlier commercial that ran 64 years ago. This lost reference begs the question, which part of the electorate is this ad for? The octogenarians? Let’s view the original.
