Kenya’s tighter marine placement rules test local insurers’ capacity
Kenya’s tighter marine placement rules are set to test insurers’ capacity as the country moves to close gaps that had slowed the implementation of the 2017 regulations, dragging annual growth in marine insurance premiums to a four-year low. Under a recent directive by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), all importers must obtain marine cargo insurance from insurers licensed under the Insurance Act before securing customs clearance, in line with Section 16A of the Marine Insurance Act.
