LOGAN GUBLER GRADE: 12 SPORT: Boys Soccer POSITION: Holding Midfielder/Defensive Midfielder RECENT HIGHLIGHTS: Logan Gubler committed and signed to play soccer for Southern Virginia University in the fall. He was our captain and workhorse on the team COACH’S COMMENTS: Logan’s leadership qualities came through nicely this year. He was Mr. Consistent, rarely having poor moments on the field. As a junior he was an All-State selection while helping us win a state championship.

Ryann Anderegg | American Fork Citizen The American Fork Amphitheater was filled with music, laughter, and community spirit on Monday evening, July 13, as hundreds gathered for a free concert featuring BYU football standouts Bear and Tiger Bachmeier alongside their uncle, Don Bachmeier, performing together as Music Bachs.

Brynn Carnesecca | American Fork Citizen Timpanogos Arts Foundation is involving actors of all ages with their summer production of “Matilda.” This larger-than-life show is adapted from the Roald Dahl book and is pure whimsy from beginning to end. “Matilda the Musical” tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a young genius who is neglected and hated by her wacky parents and brother.

According to the National Association of Realtors, homes have a median of $440,600, a 1.8% increase from last year. With many young adults trying to settle in Utah, housing can be extremely difficult to afford and purchase. Some young adults choose to rent, some buy, and some continue living with their parents or another loved one.

Elizabeth Spencer | American Fork Citizen Honoring our nation’s 250th anniversary, Follow the Flag (FTF) wanted to do something extra special this year. The morning of Independence Day at their “Dawn’s Early Light” ceremony, instead of unfurling the traditional US flag, FTF unfurled the “Betsy Ross” flag. The special flag has 13 stars arranged in a circle, representing the original colonies of the United States of America in 1776.

Megan Wallgren | American Fork Citizen Some American Fork educators received an early boost for their school-year plans when they were surprised with classroom grants at the Show Up for Teachers Conference on July 9, hosted by First Lady Abby Cox at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy. Forty educators across the state were awarded a $1,000 grant through the Mountain America Foundation to support innovative classroom projects and create meaningful learning opportunities for students.

Megan Wallgren | American Fork Citizen The Aspen Peaks School District (APSD) Board approved its first original operating budget for fiscal year 2027 during its June 11 meeting, marking a significant milestone as the new district continues preparing to become fully operational in July of 2027. Board members also approved final adjustments to the district’s fiscal year 2026 budget, which covered the district’s planning and startup phase. That budget will be closed out in September.

April Slaughter | American Fork Citizen Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) customers in Utah could see changes to their electric bills under a proposed settlement now before the Utah Public Service Commission. The settlement, filed June 30, would increase RMP’s general rates by $93 million, or 4.2%. For an average residential customer, the company estimates the increase would amount to about $3.44 per month.

Tom Hanks and I have something in common: we both write fiction. If you’ve read this monthly column for a while, you may have known that about me. But did you know that about him? Several years ago, when his short story collection, Uncommon Type, was published, I read the first several pages, found it promising, and bought it. I didn’t read it right away; my TBR (to be read) pile is rather like a mountain range. When I finally picked it up, my expectations were modest.

Rob Shelton | American Fork Citizen Julie King is leading two school boards. One is dying. The other is being born from its pieces. She’s the board president of the Alpine School District (ASD), which dissolves in July 2027. She’s also the board president of Lake Mountain School District, one of three new districts that will split up Alpine’s students, buildings and money when that day comes. Both boards elected King to lead them. Both expect her to fight for them.
