The American Hospital Association (AHA) is the national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. Nearly 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care and 43,000 individual members come together to form the AHA.
Through our representation and advocacy activities, AHA ensures that members' perspectives and needs are heard and addressed in national health policy development, legislative and regulatory debates, and judicial matters. Our advocacy efforts include the legislative and executive branches and include the legislative and regulatory arenas.
Founded in 1898, the AHA provides education for health care leaders and is a source of information on health care issues and trends. Source

AHA Names New Trustees to the Board
WASHINGTON (July 31, 2026) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) has elected seven members to its Board of Trustees for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2027. The Board of Trustees is the highest policymaking body of the AHA and has ultimate authority for the governance and management of its directions and finances. CMS issues hospital inpatient payment final rule for FY 2027
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today issued a final rule that would increase Medicare rates by a net 2.3% in fiscal year 2027, compared with FY 2026, for hospitals that are meaningful users of electronic health records and submit quality measure data. This payment update reflects a 3.2% hospital market basket increase, as well as a 0.9% productivity cut. Overall, it will increase hospital payments by $2.9 billion in FY 2027 compared to FY 2026.
CMS releases FY 2027 final rule for long-term care hospitals
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today finalized a 2.3% payment update for long-term care hospitals for fiscal year 2027 relative to FY 2026. This includes a 3.2% market basket update, reduced by a 0.9 percentage point productivity adjustment. In addition, CMS finalized its decision to freeze the outlier threshold at $78,936, the same level as FY 2026.

The Department of Health and Human Services today issued a notice announcing a revised 340B Rebate Model Pilot Program, allowing qualifying drug manufacturers to use rebates rather than upfront discounts to effectuate the 340B ceiling price for certain drugs purchased by 340B covered entities.

AHA requests CMS reconsider provisions within Medicaid community engagement rule
The AHA July 31 provided comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on its interim final rule on Medicaid community engagement requirements. To be eligible for or maintain Medicaid coverage, the rule requires certain adults to complete 80 hours per month of “qualifying activities,” such as employment, education, community service or participation in a work program, or meet equivalent income thresholds.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services July 30 released the fiscal year 2027 final rule for inpatient rehabilitation facilities. The rule will increase payments by 2.3% overall, which includes a 3.2% market basket update reduced by a 0.9 percentage point productivity adjustment. In addition, CMS updated the outlier threshold, which it says will increase overall payments by 0.4% in FY 2027. CMS also finalized two changes to the IRF coverage requirements.
