The building, however, was not originally designed to operate as a high-volume community center. All services at Esperanza are provided free of charge.

ABI May 2026: Architecture firm billings weaken further
Business conditions worsened at architecture firms in May Following a score approaching growth earlier this year, the AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index® (ABI) score for May declined to its lowest level since January, with a score of 44.5. This is likely a reflection of the softness in the economy due to the ongoing Iran conflict, as higher gas prices and inflation have led some clients to pause new projects.
AIA/Deltek ABI: Architecture Firm Billings Weaken Further as Economic Uncertainty Slows Projects
WASHINGTON – June 24, 2026 – Business conditions at architecture firms weakened further in May. The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index® (ABI) declined to its lowest level since January, with a score of 44.5. While growth appeared to be approaching earlier this year, the current economic certainty has contributed to business conditions softening across all regions. Billings remained closest to growth at firms located in the South, following the trend for most of the year thus far.
Sameh Wahba on designing a better world
Sameh Wahba is the regional director for sustainable development in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia Planet Department. There, he oversees a $10 billion portfolio spanning agriculture, climate change, the environment, and water. Earlier in his career, he led a global practice at the World Bank that focused on cities, disaster risk management, and land. On June 13, Wahba delivered the final keynote address at AIA26.
