It started, as these things often do, with an inbox full of chaos. AIM Music Business academic and alumna Jaz Yates had spent close to a decade managing artists when she found herself stuck on a thread with a PR agent that just wouldn’t end. “This was like my tipping point, where I was on an email chain fifty emails long, on a release that hadn’t even come out yet,” she shares. “She’d said, ‘Hey, can you send me the bio for the band?’ And I’m like, I did that five emails ago.

Everything we do comes back to one thing. We’re proud to launch Only Music, our new brand platform celebrating almost 60 years of the Australian Institute of Music’s unwavering dedication to shaping the musicians of tomorrow. Over the past year, we have spoken to countless past, present, and future students, staff, friends, and stakeholders from the wider AIM community to understand what truly drives them, what gives their lives meaning. What we found was this: it’s the same thing that inspires us.

Date: October 2 – October 3, 2026 Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Price: $30 What does it actually take to build a career in music? Over two intensive days at AIM’s Melbourne campus, Years 10-12 students get to discover the process firsthand. You’ll step into the shoes of a working recording artist, guided by a team of industry professionals, including songwriters, performers, producers, and music business specialists, who do this for a living.

If you’re not currently completing Year 12, you’ll apply to AIM directly. Whether you finished school a while ago, you’re changing careers, or you’ve been working, studying, or gaining experience elsewhere, we assess your application on your own experience and potential. There’s no substitute for stepping inside a music school and feeling it for yourself. The studios, the performances, the people, it’s the kind of thing that convinces you in a way a brochure never can. That’s exactly what our August Open Days are designed to give you. Both days are completely free, and open to prospective students, parents, and anyone curious about what a life in music really looks like.

Date: Thursday, August 6, 2026 Time: 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Price: Free Live @ the Pit is a completely student-run event held by the AIM Student Association live on our Sydney campus. The ongoing series showcases emerging talent, provides students with a platform to build community, and contributes to Sydney’s vibrant live music scene. This lineup features AIM indie rock acts Electric Lemons, There Goes Me, and Metanoia.

Date: July 13 – July 14, 2026 Time: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (7:00 pm for Day 2 Showcase) Price: $45 Step into the spotlight and bring your triple-threat skills to life in our two-Day Musical Theatre Intensive Workshop; a high-energy, performance-driven experience designed to challenge, inspire, and elevate emerging performers. Day 1: The Triple Threat – 9:30 am – 5:00 pm Dive headfirst into the core disciplines of musical theatre: vocal, dance, acting and performance technique.

AIM’s Sydney Music Theatre Audition Workshop is an immersive two-day experience for high school students who are serious about turning their passion into a career.
