Former Green Local Schools teacher charged with rape, sexual battery
GREEN — Former Green Middle School teacher Gary “Dan” Huff has been accused of raping students while he was employed at the district. According to a press release, in October 2025, a 42-year-old woman contacted the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to report a sexual assault. The victim reported that while she was a student at Green Middle School, she and Huff engaged in numerous sexual encounters. The alleged misconduct occurred between 1997 and 1999, beginning when the victim was 13 years old.

AKRON — On Sept. 27, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Ruhlin-Great Lakes SR 8 Joint Venture demolished two sections of the now-closed 1953 state Route (SR) 8 bridge over the Cuyahoga River Valley, using a “controlled” — or explosive — demolition. “Today we have reached another significant milestone in our SR 8 bridge replacement over the Cuyahoga River Valley,” District 4 Deputy Director Gery Noirot said.

I attended a recent board of trustees meeting, and going into the meeting, I was resolved to vote NO on all four levies on the ballot this November — largely due to the [2026 Summit County property reappraisals]. State approves nearly $2.77 million in reallocated funding for revitalization projects
SUMMIT COUNTY — The Ohio Department of Development has approved the reallocation of nearly $2.77 million through the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program to support four projects in Summit County. The Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program provides funding to help communities demolish blighted, vacant or abandoned residential and commercial buildings located on sites that are not classified as brownfields.

WEST AKRON: Employees called police to a disturbance at a West Maple Street gas station Sept. 14 and stated a woman was yelling at children and using obscenities to other customers. She was gone before the arrival of police, who were asked to advise her she is banned from the business. Officers were called back to the location an hour later when she returned and yelled at customers.
