Nightly Scribbles on My Hand I slept until 11:10 AM today, my plans for an early, productive day completely shot. Turning over, I stretch my weary arms, looking down at the illegible blue markings on my left hand. I often half wake-up many times per night, grab a pen, and write something on the back of my hand. What does it say this morning? Maybe “Schubert, Yoga, T Pick, M Tchaik, Pigs, and Fred.” I’m sure it will all become clear once I get some coffee coursing through my veins.

Ott describes the recording experience, which took place in Jóhannsson’s native Reykjavík, with recording engineers and colleagues who worked with the composer prior to his death in 2018.

Tour Diary: With Typhoon, Earthquake, and Love I’m on the slow train, high in the mountains northwest of Tokyo, on a concert tour in Japan with my piano quartet, the Thunder Egg Consort. Thw quartet is named after Oregon’s state rock. We made it through the double typhoon in Osaka, and last night there was an earthquake (5.9) that woke us up from our deep sleep. 2 couples, 4 kids, 2 grandparents.

YAIR UPDATE: Amir Avsker 7/20/2026 By All Classical Radio in ACR Happenings Amir Avsker is a talented young violinist, pianist, composer, and conductor who served as All Classical and ICAN Radio’s 2023-2024 Young Artist in Residence (YAIR). Born in Israel, Amir lived in Japan and Pennsylvania before moving to Oregon in 2015. He has written over 40 compositions for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, and orchestral works.
