Few players in recent Philadelphia Flyers history have exceeded reasonable expectations quicker than Dan Vladar did in his first season with the club. Signed ostensibly to provide competition and cover for Sam Ersson, Vladar instead snatched the starting netminder job right out from under the Flyers’ homegrown product, and didn’t stop there.

The Eagles‘ initial 53-man roster was made official Sunday evening. It was an uncharacteristically quiet day for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, who will speak with reporters on Monday, but he’s often quick to remind fans and reporters alike that roster building does not end on cut-down day. With that in mind, here are five thoughts on the initial roster, what moves may still happen in the coming days, and which players overcame the most to make the cut: 1.

Travis Sanheim has come a long way. He was drafted as a project. He proved unable to stick at the NHL level in his first go-around. He took plenty of heat from fans during his “growing pains” years in his early to mid 20s. He very nearly was traded to St. Louis. And now, he’s clearly one of the Philadelphia Flyers‘ best players, on a team that just ended a five-year postseason drought. Oh, and an Olympian.

For a season that saw Travis Konecny ultimately deliver his normal results and continue his role as the Philadelphia Flyers‘ leading scorer, Konecny’s 2025-26 campaign seemed oddly tumultuous. That certainly wasn’t the case behind closed doors, where Konecny remained a key team leader and mentor to the team’s many young players. But as comes with the territory of being a club’s highest-paid player, outside scrutiny dogged Konecny.
