Volodymyr Zhuravlev, a deep-sea diver, was detained last week in the Croatian coastal city of Pula. In a fantastical turn of events, he had reportedly been acting as a consultant on the set of director Doug Liman's next movie, Snake Island, about the team of Ukrainian divers that allegedly carried out the Nord Stream operation.

In 2006, a British man called John Hogan leapt from a fourth-floor hotel balcony, holding his two small children in his arms. He had been arguing with his wife during a holiday in Crete intended to save their failing marriage. Hogan and his daughter survived the fall; his six-year-old son Liam died. A Greek court cleared Hogan of murder on the basis that he had been suffering from "an earthquake of insanity". He was released from a psychiatric unit after only 16 months.

Amid the Lindsay Clancy trial madness this week, I've seen a lot of social media posts from predominantly young women saying something to the effect of: "We see ourselves in Lindsay Clancy," and "We are all Lindsay Clancy." Actually, no, all women don't identify with a woman who allegedly strangled her three little kids to death.

Ukraine alleges that the Kremlin is on the brink of mobilizing another 300,000 troops later this year in order to make up for significant battlefield losses. The Washington Post was ordered to rehire an opinion columnist who was fired in September over her social media post concerning the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In a post on the Bluesky platform, Karen Attiah responded to the outpouring of grief over Kirk's assassination, saying that "Refusing to tear my clothes and smear ashes on my face in performative mourning for a white man that espoused violence is … not the same as violence."

Canada's political leaders have united to rally the country against President Trump in a brewing trade war after Prime Minister Mark Carney walked away from talks on Friday just hours before new 50 percent tariffs took effect. Carney told reporters at a press conference in Ottawa that his government will "match Washington's new tariffs dollar for dollar." Retaliatory tariffs are set to take effect on Sept. 8.

Tasha Kenney woke up at 4 a.m. on Thursday, donned a pink T-shirt and drove to the courthouse in Plymouth, Mass., to show support for Lindsay Clancy, the mother on trial for killing her three young children.
