Her return was a celebration of her long-awaited debut album, Film Noir, which was released late last year under an independent label. There was no opener for the evening. Instead, Faouzia and her backing band performed an hour-and-a-half long set that required no extra support.

Friday The distinguished Newport Jazz Festival returned to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, RI, for its 72nd year with a stacked lineup of up-and-coming musicians and jazz legends across three sold-out days. Jazz lovers everywhere were eager to see the result of drummer Nate Smith’s recent appointment as the festival’s artistic director.
Rat City Makes Heads and Tails of the Allston Scene
The warming temperatures of July mean that the Rat City Arts Festival must be on the horizon. The fest’s 2026 edition took place on a bright and toasty Saturday on the first day of August. 16 artists, roughly two dozen vendors, and a food truck infested the Charles River Speedway in a free showcase, all in support of raising money and awareness for community initiatives.

Looking out at the crowded arena at TD Garden on the night of August 1, lead vocalist Brandon Coleman recalled an early gig playing the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, commenting dryly on the band’s progress as “quite an upgrade.” The Alabamian country rockers came to town for the second stop of their “Grateful” tour, celebrating their third studio album.
