Seventeen Alma College Teams Earn MIAA 2025-26 Team GPA Award Recognition
ALMA, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has recognized Alma College for outstanding academic achievement, honoring 17 Scots athletic programs with the 2025-26 MIAA Team GPA Award. The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented annually to conference teams that achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.300 or higher during the academic year. Team GPAs are calculated at the conclusion of the academic year.
Five Scots Named to NABC Honors Court as Men's Basketball Earns Team Academic Excellence Award
ALMA, Mich. – The NABC has announced the recipients of the 2025-26 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court. The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2025-26 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2025-26 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Huffman Tabbed as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach
ALMA, Mich. – Alma College Athletics is proud to announce the next head coach of the Scots men's and women's tennis programs with the hiring of Lucas Huffman as announced by Athletics Director Dr. Phil Miller. "Lucas is a wonderful addition to our athletics staff, He brings tremendous energy, a genuine passion for the sport of tennis, and the leadership qualities needed to guide our men's and women's tennis programs," said Miller.
Sarullo Named Player of the Year, Gottschalk Specialist of the Year as STUNT Collects Postseason Awards
ALMA, Mich. – Over the weekend, the Alma College STUNT team was recognized at the national level for their national championship quality season through individual awards from the College STUNT Coaches Association (CSCA). The Scots were honored with the (Co) Player of the Year along with the Jumps and Tumbles Specialist and a handful of All-Americans on the first and second team for the Club division.
Foster '16 Returns to Alma Mater to Lead Men's Lacrosse Program

Chovanec '91 Steps Away as Cross Country/Track & Field Head Coach After 13 Seasons
ALMA, Mich. – After wrapping up his 13th season at the helm of the Cross Country/Track and Field programs, Matt Chovanec, a 1991 graduate of Alma College, will be stepping down from his head coach position. Chovanec was one of the longest tenured coaches on staff for Scots athletics as he has been with the program in a coaching capacity since the 2002 season, including serving as the head track and field coach form 2004-2006, before being named to his current position on July 25th, 2014.
Alma's Griffin Named to MATS Hall of Fame Class of 2026
Alma, MI – Alma College's Denny Griffin has been named to the 2026 Michigan Athletic Trainers Society Hall of Fame Class of 2026. He will be inducted on June 5, 2026 during the 2026 MATS Annual Clinical Symposium at the Kellog Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan. Griffin, who just concluded his 38th season as Alma's Head Softball Coach, will enter year 44 at Alma College in the fall of 2026.
Westall Named to NFCA All-Region Team, Softball has Three Named All-MIAA
Alma, MI – Postseason accolades have rolled in for the Alma College Softball program, following a 25-13 season that saw the Scots finish 3rd in the MIAA. Alma's Morgan Westall was named to the NFCA All-Region team for the first time in her career, earning second team honors. Additionally, the Scots had three student-athletes selected to the All-MIAA second team, as announced by the league office on May 6. Alma's Jordyn Porter, Katelyn Thomas, and Westall received the honor.
