Federal immigration authorities have detained dozens of people in the city of Danbury, Connecticut, this week, despite intense opposition from elected officials and protesters. The Trump administration’s mass deportation campaign is plowing ahead even in Democratic-led states like Connecticut that have laws seeking to limit Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s power. Nationwide, ICE arrests increased significantly in June and July, according to newly released data.

Moroccan migrants in Ceuta ambushed a Spanish military vehicle and pelted soldiers with stones. Twelve Moroccans, all of whom had entered the Spanish enclave during the migrant surge last month, were arrested after the attack during an early-hours patrol on Thursday. One soldier had been injured after being struck in the back after around 70 migrants on both sides of the road had hurled stones and other objects, a police spokesman said.

Police in Minneapolis reportedly raided the apartment of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s son and seized firearms before arresting his roommate. Law enforcement sources told Alpha News that a search warrant was carried out at the home of Omar’s son Adnan on Tuesday night. According to the outlet, they recovered guns and ammunition from the home and arrested his roommate Abdulrahman Abdi, 22.

A private arbitrator has ordered The Washington Post to rehire the opinion columnist Karen Attiah, who was fired in September over her social media posts about the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk. It also ordered the company to compensate her with back pay.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a record high of more than 800 people without criminal records a day in July on average, new federal data shows. The surge in arrests comes as the White House pushes the agency to hit a target of 2,000 per day. July is the first month in President Trump’s second term when people with only civil immigration violations — rather than pending criminal charges or convictions — made up more than half of those arrested.
