Just in time for the new year, and for the birthday of the Tzemach Tzedek, which falls on Erev Rosh Hashana, the Ohel of the Rebbeim in Lubavitch has undergone a complete and final restoration. The Ohel, where the Tzemach Tzedek and the Rebbe Maharash are buried, now stands fully rebuilt, with the matzeivos restored to their proper place and the entire surrounding area cleared and refurbished, and the site finally accessible to Kohanim for the first time.

A century after it was first built, Budapest’s historic Rákospalota shul returned to full Jewish use on Erev Yom Kippur, following an extensive restoration that transformed the long-neglected building from a former library warehouse back into a functioning shul. The dedication began with singing by the Zorger Cantorial Choir from Yerushalayim.

There was a special feeling in the air on the corner of Pratt and California Avenues in Chicago. As many participants attested, the bochurim brought a unique energy to the evening. Their niggunim and pure simchah helped transform the gathering into a true farbrengen. The farbrengen was led by dean Rabbi Moshe B. Perlstein and Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Eliyahu Nosson Silberberg, with musical accompaniment led by Benny Friedman. “It was a beautiful event,” said participant Effy Cohen.

This summer, Kollel Anash of Crown Heights hosted a series of shiurim on kashrus, including a featured shiur by Rabbi Hershel Krinsky, Senior Rabbinic Coordinator at OK Kosher. In a fascinating shiur, Rabbi Krinsky discussed the entire process of producing kosher cheese – Gevinas Yisroel. From putting in the rennet, separating the whey, and through the laws of using keilim, which were used with Gevinas Akum. He elaborated on the dispute between the Rema and the Shach as to what makes cheese kosher.

Lubavitcher photographer Mordechai Lubecki recently spent a day exploring Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in southeastern France, photographing the dramatic mountain scenery surrounding one of the best-known destinations in the French Alps. Lubecki ascended to an altitude of 3,842 meters, capturing sweeping views over the mountains and the Mont Blanc region. Following the visit to Chamonix, he returned to Aix-les-Bains, approximately an hour and a half away, where he was spending Shabbos and Rosh Hashanah.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kot and his family are preparing to move to Homel, Belarus, where they will join and expand the Jewish activity already taking place in the city. Their departure was marked this week with a Tzeischem Leshalom farbrengen in Moscow, led by Rosh Kollel Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Marzel. Members of the kollel gathered to wish farewell to Rabbi Kot, who had been learning with them before leaving for his new shlichus. Homel holds a particularly prominent place in Chabad history.

Ahead of Yom Kippur, hundreds came to the courtyard of the Brunoy Yeshiva in the pre-dawn hours, b’ashmores haboker, to perform kaparos. Beginning at 6:45 a.m., bochurim, Anash and local families filled the yeshiva grounds for the annual Erev Yom Kippur minhag.
