Apple couldn't quite get Apple Pencil Pro to work with iPhone Duo, but Apple Pencil with USB-C pairs fine over a cable and brings its basic functions to iOS for the first time. A rumor in late August suggested Apple tried and failed to include support for Apple Pencil on its upcoming foldable. The issue was apparently with where the Apple Pencil would need to mount for charging interrupting the ease of opening and closing the device.
iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Foldabes compared
Apple has finally entered the foldable market with the iPhone Duo, its first folding iPhone. Here's how it compares against Samsung's latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. After more than a decade of rumors, Apple's first foldable arrived at its fall event as the iPhone Duo. A hyper-premium smartphone that has dual displays and folds in half. It lands in a market Samsung has led for years, thanks to its Z Fold line.
How iPhone Duo compares in size to the iPhone 18 Pro in the wild
Our very own videographer is inside Apple Park right now, and just had some time with the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro Max. It can be hard to visualize the size of the iPhone Duo closed. Apple's keynote was great about feature demonstration, but less so about real-world size and hand-feel. Saying that it is the general size of a passport isn't quite enough on its own. I thought about that, and since the iPhone 18 Pro family is exactly the same size as the iPhone 17 Pro, this is an easy compare.
iPhone Duo users can be authenticated with Apple Watch if Touch ID isn't ideal
Face ID wasn't going to work on iPhone Duo, so Apple chose Touch ID instead. For those that don't like Touch ID, Apple Watch will authenticate them automatically. The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable device, which means it can be used opened or closed. Apple couldn't find a way to make Face ID work in both use cases, so it offered Touch ID instead. The benefit of Touch ID on a foldable is that it can be authenticated no matter if the device is open or closed, or facing forward or backward.
Apple Upgrade won't make maxed out iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo easier to swallow
The iPhone lineup is more expensive than ever, especially when choosing the 2TB option in either iPhone 18 Pro Max or iPhone Duo. Payment plans help, but an iPhone for Mac Studio money hurts. The 2026 iPhone lineup is not only more expensive, but Apple's financing options have changed too. Apple managed to keep the base models with 256GB of storage reasonable, the higher storage tiers are sky-high to supplement that.
New Apple Watch bands lean into a more subdued color palette
Apple's latest Apple Watch band refresh favors burgundy, olive, and other muted shades, with options available across nearly its entire lineup. On Wednesday, Apple announced the all-new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. As we'd anticipated, Apple also released a smorgasbord of new Apple Watch bands. Most of these bands are also compatible with previous Apple Watch generations, so you can pick up a new band even if you're not upgrading your Apple Watch yet.
iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro: Flagships, compared
The iPhone 18 Pro has arrived with a new chip and camera refinements over the iPhone 17 Pro. Here's how Apple's latest Pro compares against last year's model. Right on schedule, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro at its fall event as the new Pro edition to get. That is, if you don't want the massive Pro Max version. The follow-up to the iPhone 17 Pro that introduced the aluminum unibody frame and vapor chamber cooling, the new model refines that formula rather than reinventing it.
Siri AI will launch in beta, complicated by daily usage caps & future paid access
Apple confirmed Wednesday that Siri AI will remain in beta when the OS 27 versions reach the public on September 14, with the long-delayed assistant subject to use caps and fees, plus language and regional restrictions. The mobile releases cover iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, while macOS 27 Golden Gate shares the same release date. watchOS 27 and visionOS 27 will also arrive September 14 with Siri AI on supported devices. Apple has released the first release candidates for its new operating systems.
Apple's new Health revamp is about more than the Apple Watch
Apple's announcement of the new Apple Watch Series 12 includes references to some notable Apple Intelligence upgrades to Health features, but the iPhone and iPad also benefit in some big ways. The Apple Watch Series 12 unveiling saw Apple focus on its ability to monitor the wearer's heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV,) and more. But it's what Apple intends to do with the data the Apple Watch collects that will make the biggest difference to people's lives.
Apps will look terrible unless they are updated for the iPhone Duo
Apple has produced a series of videos for developers showing how their apps will look on the iPhone Duo, and without modification, they could look really ugly. As it always has, Apple has encouraged developers to use its latest Xcode development tools without quite telling them why things were changing. Consequently, it now says that if developers have worked to the current Xcode 27, their apps will need little work to look good on the iPhone Duo.
